Before BB22 premieres, take a journey with me back to 2005 with The Rewatchables: Big Brother 6

2020.08.04 19:02 jobening Before BB22 premieres, take a journey with me back to 2005 with The Rewatchables: Big Brother 6

None of you requested it. Like 8 of you actually wanted another one. But I think a lot of you who read most, if not all of the post, will enjoy it as much as I did writing it. As the homie realvegas4sure would say, “I do this for you.”
Disclaimer: This, just as the previous 2 installments, will be a really long post. There’s no real tl;dr version either, so if you’re not ready to read through all of this, I don’t blame you. I had a ton of fun rewatching this season and even more fun writing the post though, so I hope y’all are able to find even a little bit of enjoyment as we embark on this blast from the past.
So what is “The Rewatchables?” The Rewatchables is a podcast on the Ringer Network hosted by Bill Simmons and numerous Ringer staff members, where they talk movies that are “rewatchable.” They pick a movie that they find rewatchable, talk about why they find it rewatchable, breaking down every little nuance of the film, and then award wins to different categories like “Most Rewatchable Scene” or “Best Quote.”
So how does this tie into Big Brother? Before I did the first “episode” on BB17 back in February or March, I hadn’t even thought about doing the Big Brother Rewatchables. I just wanted to rewatch a great season. But then I figured, why not? Why not combine two things I enjoy to create something I think the Big Brother community would enjoy? So I did just that with The Rewatchables: BB17 and then The Rewatchables: BB16. With this rewatch of BB6, just as I did with the previous installments, I took notes throughout the rewatch and began to assign the winners to the different categories.
In the Rewatchables podcast, there’s an actual conversation going. A back and forth among the guests on why they picked the winners that they picked. Here, it’s literally just gonna be me giving my nominations and winners lol. But please feel free to comment and discuss in the comments.
Also, this will probably be a lot more enjoyable if you’re familiar with the podcast's format and categories, but it’s not absolutely necessary to still be able to read and enjoy this.
Ok enough of the rambling, all-over-the-place intro. I give you The Rewatchables: Big Brother 6.
Disclaimer #2: Before we get into it, let me just say that 2005 was a long time ago. It was a completely different time. A lot of us were young and things that definitely wouldn’t fly today, somehow were able to fly back then. If we could just keep this in the back of our minds as we go through this post, it’ll make things a lot more enjoyable, and a lot easier than me having to constantly harp on the fact that a lot of what happened and was said on this season has not aged well at all.
Ok, now moving on. So in the podcast, they’ll usually start off with something like a summary of the movie, quick thoughts on why it’s rewatchable, the success or lack of success of the film, etc. So I guess I’ll start there.
I picked BB6 for this next installment because it’s my favorite season for a few reasons. It’s the first season I watched live from beginning to end. It had some of the best characters and house splits in BB history. And it’s the season that got me absolutely hooked on the show and made me dream of playing it someday.
And I don’t think I’m alone in saying how much I love this season. It is regarded by most fans as one of the best seasons ever (just check out any of the “which season should I watch” posts, and tell me you don’t see BB6 being recommended 95% of the time).
BB6 is old school Big Brother. It’s what a lot of fans want the current show to go back to. Without getting too far ahead of ourselves, it’s got memorable, unique characters – including a few BB legends. It had twists that actually worked. It had the old school vibe with non-scripted DRs and the old school intro we all love. It has a true house split with two sides going back and forth with the power switching week to week. Drama. Blowups. Fights. Strategy. Misting. Comedy. You name it. BB6 has it. And this is all just from the episodes. I regrettably and stupidly didn’t become a feed watcher until much later, so I can’t speak on the feeds aspect, but I imagine it was a top 3 season to watch live feeds. I don’t want to step on the toes of the categories, so let's just get into them now.
Category: Most Rewatchable Scene
Summary: It’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s when you’re at home, you’ve got the movie on, and you’re about to leave the house for dinner, but you stick around for a little bit longer because that one scene is coming up. For Big Brother, maybe you’re on Youtube and you wanna pull up some BB6 clips. You type in “BB6 ______.” What goes in the blank? My nominations:
Eric vs. Michael / Kaysar vs. Ivette: We all love a good fight, and this season was full of them. We get this one early when Eric goes off on Michael for talking about his family and the two have to actually be held back by other houseguests before Big Brother intervenes and tells them to go to separate locations of the house. Bonus round, we get Kaysar vs. Ivette when Ivette accuses Kaysar of not being respectful of women, Kaysar stands up and gets in her face, and again Big Brother has to intervene and tell everyone to scatter. Just a great clip for everyone who loves drama/fights.
Drunk Janelle vs. Drunk Beau: Another one for the fight fanatics. But this one is a little more on the fun, lighthearted side, even though a lot of what was said actually came from serious hatred. We have Janelle drunkenly attacking The Friendship alliance, with Howie egging her on, culminating in Janelle and Beau getting into a face to face drunken shoving match, while they call each other names. Pure entertainment.
Maggie finesses Howie into nominating James and Sarah: This one’s for the people who love a good misting. Somehow Maggie was able to convince Howie into putting up two of his own allies which led to his alliance eventually crumbling. I linked the clip from the episode but I wish I knew how this actually played out on the feeds.
The whole Pressure Cooker hoh episode: You read that right. I’m nominating the whole ass episode as a most rewatchable scene. Not only do you have one of the, if not thee most epic comps ever in the Pressure Cooker, but you have other great moments as well – Beau’s peepee, Jenn teaching Rachel how to dance, Beau getting absolutely trashed in the pressure cooker, Jenn having a nice moment with her hoh pics. Beginning to end, it’s an amazing episode and super rewatchable on it’s own. (I only linked part 1 of what I was able to find, but if you search bb6 pressure cooker on YouTube, you’ll easily find the rest).
The Chess Veto episode: It was really difficult to not just nominate the whole episode here as well. Fuck it. I’m nominating the whole episode lol. I didn’t wanna do this again cause if I did, I might as well just nominate damn near every episode. But this episode, just as the Pressure Cooker episode, deserves it's shine. This episode has the creation of the Sovereign Six, the Chess Veto comp, and the aftermath of Maggie, Eric, and co. finding out that Eric is going to be backdoored. The episode is particularly rewatchable if you were/are a Sovereign Six fan, as you get to see it all come together for them, and you see The Friendship slowly begin to realize what’s going down as the veto comp goes on. And the cherry on top is Kaysar’s line to Maggie, “I sealed your partner’s fate.” Lastly, Eric throwing a tantrum and snatching his hat off James’ head is so petty and funny.
Howie vs. April: Remember that disclaimer about this season not aging well? Yeah, here’s one of the many reasons. Still, as a 16 year old watching this in 2005, loving the Sovereign Six, and hating The Friendship, it didn’t get much better than this.
The first Double Eviction episode: Lol ok bear with me. Another whole episode nomination. But how could I not. Besides Kaysar getting evicted again, this episode was wonderful cause it has yet another shift in power and is full of great quotes, most iconically Janelle’s “Give me that key bitch” after winning hoh and Jenn tossing the key so Janelle has to go fetch it, all while being live on national tv. Another really rewatchable episode. More on the other quotes later.
My pick: I gotta go with the chess veto. When I said earlier that this season was what made me fall in love with the show and instantly wish I could have a chance someday, I’m specifically talking about this moment. As soon as I heard Kaysar say “I sealed your parter’s fate,” I got instant goosebumps. It just might be my favorite BB moment ever.
Category: What’s Aged the Best?
Summary: What aged well over the following seasons? What has continued to hold up? What’s gotten even better?
Veto speeches Specifically, when one of the nominees wins veto and will obviously take themself off, and the other nominee isn’t forced to make an awkward speech that won’t make a difference. In older seasons like this one, when production was still getting it’s feel for the show, these awkward speeches happened, and it’s nice that nowadays the veto holding nominee just does what they need to do and we move on. Veto speeches aged better.
One liners during key reveal Y’know, those cringey lines the HGs say after they get their key, they’re looking us straight in the eye, and say why they’ll win Big Brother based on some fact about their character type. A few from this season:
Hi, I’m Jennifer. And I’m the total package.
I’m Howie, and I’m forecasting stormy weather for the other houseguests.
I’m Rachel, and I’m gonna gallop right past the competition.
Lol, they’re so cringey, but at the time, just such a staple in reality television. The fact that BB stopped doing this is what has aged better. (I also contemplated nominating this for “What’s aged the worst” below, cause imagine new HGs doing these in current times. While they’d still be cringey, they’d still be hilarious.)
Have-Not foods and rooms These older seasons had PBnJ as the only HN food. And I’m not sure when HN rooms became a thing, but it wasn’t BB6. Having slop and the occasional addition voted by America, as well as a HN room is a nice step forward from PBnJ.
The Veto medallion Well the medallion itself was fine. What was holding it was not. I think it’s literally just a piece of rope nowadays, but back then it looked so tacky.
Julie Chen I kind of like the more Chenbot-ish version we have now (I know others don’t) and she still looks great.
Selection of veto players It was cool in BB5 for Nakomis/Marvin and co. to come up with and pull off the first backdoor by taking advantage of the selection rules they had back then, but if they didn’t change them, the backdoor would have gotten old quick and perceived as a weaker and weaker move imo.
Double Evictions Been awhile since I saw an older season, so I don’t know when true double evictions became a thing, but watching the BB6 DEs go with the 2nd eviction not happening the same night as the 1st was not as enjoyable or suspenseful. The current format is way better.
My pick: Double Evictions. The way they are formatted now just adds much more anticipation and suspense. The concept was great when first introduced, and with fine some tweaks, doubles have aged much better.
Category: What’s Aged the Worst?
Summary: Exactly the opposite of “What’s Aged the Best? What hasn’t aged well over the following seasons? What hasn’t held up? What’s gotten even worse? A lot of these, same with Aged Best, could easily switch to the other category depending on how you look at it. My nominees:
True house splits We rarely get them anymore. Most of the time it’s a steamroll with the underdog getting a few wins here and there. Or the two sides eventually become a cohesive house again until the next targets make themselves available. Either way, we don’t get the true two sides going at it back and forth much anymore.
Nominee speeches Back then it felt like more often than not, nominees would mostly sit instead of stand and usually weren’t yelling or putting on a character, which created a more laid back, intimate tone compared to current times where nominees are more or less playing things up for tv.
James’ veto record It’s been broken by quite a few players since BB6.
Video tapes/cell phones With the technology we have now, seeing the jury pop their recap tape into a vcr or seeing Janelle talk to Michael on an old-school flip phone is funny. Those scenes haven’t aged well.
Keeping your vote secret As in Julie reminding the HGs that they can’t reveal their votes to others when they pass each other in the hallway to the DR. Nowadays, not only are they doing handshakes in the hall between votes, but they confirm with each other who to vote for.
DRs Back then we got serious, non-scripted, less hyper, non-yelling at the camera DRs. DRs these days are all about screaming and being a personality for tv. DRs haven’t aged well at all.
Juries 7 then, 9 now. 3rd place actually got to go to the jury and discuss with the other jurors. The f2 was able to really explain their game over a night instead of a few minutes each.
Those last two are my picks for What’s Aged the Worst?
Category: The Dion Waiters Award
Summary: This one goes to the best heat check by a role player. Who did the most, with the least? The basketball equivalent of coming off the bench to play 16 minutes and put up 20 points with 6 3’s. For the Big Brother equivalent, it’s who didn’t have much screen time but made the most of it? I limited the nominees to only pre-jurors as anyone else was on the show too long to be considered.
Just gonna get the winner out of the way now, cause it can’t be anyone but him. Kaysar is our Dion Waiters winner for best heat check by a role player. He created one of the dopest alliances in BB history, executed an iconic backdoor going hand in hand with a legendary line, was voted back into the house by America with 82% of 5 million votes, was 2nd place in one of the most iconic comps ever, returned for an All-Star season the very next year, had a role on The Young and the Restless, and is a universal fan favorite. He did all this with just a handful weeks in the house. Fool put up a 20-12-12 triple double in 23 minutes off the bench. And he turned that all into potentially a second All-Star appearance this upcoming season. Whatup Kaysar!
The runner-up is clearly Eric “Cappy” Littmann. He was in the house for three weeks but put up a pretty nice stat line. He was defacto leader of The Nerd Herd The Girl Scout Troop The Friendship, got into a few fights/arguments, came in 2nd in the America vote for returning player, and had his eviction spark a cult-like revenge tour for the rest of his alliance. While not quite where Kaysar was, he still had a lasting impact on BB6.
Honorable Mention: Holly from BB5. She came in for a quick what, 7 minute appearance but put up 16 points on 4-4 from three in that veto comp she hosted.
Category: Best Quotes
Summary: Self explanatory. Though some of these aren’t necessarily the best but rather what I enjoyed personally.
James in the DR about Maggie’s hoh: One of the most amazing moments of my life....no it was pathetic. I’m watching all these putrid little rats go around and kiss her ass. Let her listen to her music...and smoke her banana peels…and do whatever she does in there. Just don’t make me sick.
Janelle about her drunk fight with Beau Its so easy to screw with Beau cause he’s such a little bitch.
Howie and April: H: You can’t compete without your smokes, can you?
A: Can you compete without your fingers? (What a clapback)
Janelle naming replacement nom For strategic reasons…I will choose to evict…excuse me..I choose to nominate Ivette.
April about a comp When you’re skinny, it’s like you don’t think you need to work out..and I am friggin’ out of shape…get me a stretcher… (I felt this)
Howie A guy with my looks, my build, and my future economic potential…If I leave a bar slash nightclub by myself, somebody’s getting arrested cause there was a crime committed.
Drunk Janelle and the gang
Janelle: Rachel you’re so beautiful. Maggie you’re such a bitch. Jennifer, you look like a clown. …
April: You’re drunk.
J: Excuse me??
A: You’re drunk.
J: I am not. (the way she delivers this lol)
A: Please, you can’t even look straight.
J: Yes I can April, thank you very much.
A: No you can’t Janelle, thank you very much.
J: You gold digging bitch! laughs
Howie: It’s a cat fight between the buxom blonde and the busted blonde.
A to Maggie: She knows she’s a slut.

J to Beau: You gold digging little whore.
B: No I don’t think so.
J: You most certainly are Beau.
B: Polyester bitch! Polyester bitch!
J: Whore! Whore! You date older men!
Howie after winning hoh SUPERBOWL!
Howie during the double Julie: This is a double eviction.
Howie: YES!!
James: Howie relax.
Howie carries Janelle off
Janelle: Bye bye bitches!
Everyone: We’re live.
Janelle on the phone with Michael
Maggie: Ask him what the world’s like.
Janelle: Did Britney Spears have her baby?
Kaysar and Maggie
K: You’re not the target.
M: Kaysar, you sealed my fate.
K: No. I sealed your partner’s fate.
(gotta give this one love again)
My pick: All of them. You can’t pick just one.
Category: The Joey Pants award for Best “That Guy”
Summary: Named after Joe Pantoliano. In movies, there’s always some guy or girl who you recognize and go “hey it’s that guy,” cause you see them in so many other things but you almost never know their actual name. This award goes to the best of that kind of person in the movie. Our Big Brother equivalent is tough because we’re mostly superfans here, and we always for the most part know everyone in any season. And even if we didn’t, it’s not like we would recognize them from anything else anyway. For the sake of the award, I’m looking at this through the lens of a casual fan.
Nakomis
Michael aka Cowboy
Holly
No winner. Just three former HGs that casual viewers might go, “Hey it’s that guy/girl” when they see their appearances on BB6.
Category: Best Unintentional Comedy
Summary: Best comedic moments that weren't meant to be comedic.
The Friendship Anytime the Friendship cried about Eric. Or anytime The Friendship vowed to seek revenge for him. Or anytime “The Friendship” is just said. The more the they said it, the more cringe it was. The Friendship might be the gumpiest alliance name of all time. And then they would do things like put their keys in his memory wall slot or make an altar type thing in hoh. Just really funny stuff that they weren’t intending to be funny.
Anytime someone says “what the other side did was dishonest” I realized this the most when I saw Janelle and the Sovereign Six complaining that Jenn going back on her word was dirty, when just two weeks ago Kaysar broke his word with Eric. A week before that, Eric broke his word with Michael, etc. Just funny how hypocritical this game gets.
James being the only HG available to host the veto comp he was backdoored with
Every time The Friendship says America fell in love with Eric Just knowing what we know about how America favored The Sovereign Six, this is hilarious.
Janelle winning the phone call: You feel for Ivette here, and Janelle’s having an “I miss you more” convo with someone she’s known 2 weeks and you can’t help but laugh.
Category: Apex Mountain
Summary: The Rewatchables is sometimes inconsistent with how they define Apex Mountain, but it’s mostly about going through everything involved in the film – actors, directors, music, themes, locations, literally anything – and deciding whether or not it’s at it’s apex at the time of the film. For example, is the actor in question at the peak of their stardom, when they could’ve gotten the most gigs. In our case, we don’t know much about these HG’s actual lives before/after Big Brother other than what they’ve mentioned, so we can’t say for sure what their peaks are, but for the sake of the category, I’m gonna treat BB6 as their apexes unless it’s obvious that they had done more/better before or after the season.
Imo it's a clear case that it was everyone's apex except for:
Kaysar
James
Howie
Janelle
All four were invited back for All-Stars the very next season. Janelle returned again for BB14. And both Kaysar and Janelle have been heavily rumored for BB22. Big Brother 6 wasn’t their apex.
No one else in the cast did much, that I know of anyway (not including work and family related stuff obviously). Big Brother 6 was their apex.
Pressure Cooker This is it’s apex because it was a one and done. It made such an impact in it’s only appearance.
Old school intro/theme/nomination wheel I could’ve just as easily put these in what’s aged the worst, cause all of them are sorely missed. I’ll put ‘em here cause when I think about these elements, I think of older seasons, and when I think older seasons, the first one I think of is BB6.
Category: Probably Unanswerable Questions
Summary: What it sounds like. Random questions you have about the season that may or may not have an actual answer. Some of them may actually be answerable if you watched feeds, which I didn’t.
What happened to food comps? Why did BB stop doing food comps? They were fun and a nice change from competitive, heated hoh and veto comps, to lighthearted, friendly competition for the house, most of the time.
What happens if Maggie was evicted over Eric? Or if Kaysar doesn’t give hoh to Jenn? Or if Howie doesn’t put up James and Sarah? These are just a few of the infinite what if’s we could ask about this, or any, season, and we’d go down a rabbit hole of alternate universes.
How was neither Janelle nor Beau ejected for physically getting into it? Yeah they were drunk. Yeah it appeared playful at first. Chalk it up to it being early Big Brother?
Why did Howie choose to single out and attack April over everyone else?
Did Maggie actually throw that hoh to Ivette? Did Ivette ever find out?
Category: Who Won the Movie?
Summary: The final category and it's exactly what it sounds like. When you think of this movie, who undoubtedly comes to mind first? Is it an actor? The director? In our case, it isn’t a literal “Who won the season?” Obviously Maggie did, and while she could theoretically win this award, it wouldn’t be just because she won the actual game.
I think there’s a very clear cut winner here. It’s gotta be Janelle. As much as Howie liked to joke that he was the star of the show, Janelle actually was the star. She won multiple comps. Made some of the best entertainment. America loved her enough to vote for her for damn near every fan vote. She turned this appearance into 2, possibly 3 additional appearances on Big Brother as well as an appearance on The Amazing Race. She’s a favorite among both old school and modern Big Brother fans. When you think BB2 you think Dr. Will. Same for BB17 with Vanessa. Or with BB8, Dick and Daniele. When you think BB6, Janelle comes to mind first. She won the season.
Ok whew, I felt like that one was longer than my previous ones, but for good reason. BB6 is my favorite season and I’m definitely not alone in that. It was so fun to rewatch the season and make another one of these posts. I hope those of you who read the whole thing, or even just skimmed some of it, enjoyed it in some way.
What did I miss? What would you have picked for some of these categories?
TLDR: Rewatchables podcast meets Big Brother seasons. I rewatched BB6 and awarded wins similar to what they do on the podcast.

Sometimes, the fans just get it right. Legions of MCU fans were clamoring Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios to cast Benedict Cumberbatch in the role as the Sorcerer Supreme, and when Feige and co relented, the result was golden. Doctor Strange is one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU, going from a crippled shell of himself at the beginning of his first film to a supremely powerful Master of the Mystic Arts by the end. It's usually said that Doctor Strange doesn't have any actual "superpowers" so to speak, but I tend to disagree: I believe Stephen Strange's super power is his iron will, absolutely unbreakable by anyone in the universe. He let himself be killed, over and over again, for what probably amounted to centuries or millennia, if not for millions of years. And he never tapped out, he never relented. Doctor Strange is unmatched not just in his mystical power, but in his pure resolve to protect the physical world from all harm and destruction.
#9. Rocket Raccoon
Rocket Raccoon has been another member of the 'pleasant surprise' category in the MCU. He was always great, starting as the funniest Guardian and vehicle for a legendary performance by Bradley Cooper. But over the course of Rocket's four film appearances, we've learned about a complex character who's been hurt by everyone he's ever been close to and is grappling with the fact that he was made into something he never asked to be. At the same time though, for all the powerful emotional stuff going on with the character of Rocket, he is still just hilarious. A sarcastic quote for each and every occasion, the insistence that he's the captain of the Guardians' ship, and of course the scene where Bucky picks him up and spins him around killing outriders in Wakanda, which is the greatest scene in the MCU bar none.
#8. Thor
Thor, Son of Odin, King of Asgard, Guardian of the Nine Realms. The original Thor was the third MCU movie I saw in theaters, and I wasn't expecting much out of it. But like Iron Man before it, Thor was a massive surprise. Thor as a character has had one of the longest, most tumultuous journeys of any character in the franchise, and considering he's lived over 1,500 years old, those thirteen years he's been here have changed everything in the blink of an eye. Thor has one by one lost everyone from his old life on Asgard, leaving him alone in his life, the oldest man on earth by a few centuries and with hardly anyone he can truly relate to. Still, Thor suits up and goes to battle for a planet he's only recently known over and over again, putting his life on the line for people he will outlive by a few centuries more. Thor isn't just the ultimate warrior, he's also a great man and a good friend.
#7. Matt Murdock (Daredevil)
The first MCU superhero to be adapted to the small screen, the portrayal of Matt Murdock was knocked clear out of the park. Charlie Cox was one of the MCU's greatest castings, and the writing behind the character does true justice to one of the great comic heroes of all time. Matt Murdock is a man defined by his struggle to adhere to his vigorous moral code when the criminals he's fighting are bound by no such restriction. Still, even though every thug he beats up lives to tell the tale, it only serves to spread word about the Devil of Hell's Kitchen, and make the worst of society think twice about what they do in the shadows. Though it's now up in limbo whether we'll ever see Matt don his famous red suit again, should he not return there's still solace in a perfect final scene, where the Daredevil beats Wilson Fisk to a bloody husk and announces, with great authority and possibly even relief, that the Kingpin had been beaten.
#6. Peter Quill (Star-Lord)
With Peter Quill, Marvel had the unique challenge of having to build a famous movie hero out of an unknown comic character. Only Marvel's diehards had any idea about any of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Quill included, and so when the 2014 team movie became a smash hit, it was a surprise to many. It didn't hurt to have Chris Pratt in the role, bringing a goofy charisma that only a few actors can pull off. But what makes Quill so great is that beyond the wisecracking man-child is a layered character with a lot of internal tumult, mostly suppressed but often appearing when Quill loses control of his emotions. Peter lost his mother at a young age, something he was never taught to deal with, and every time since that he found himself a new family, it wasn't long before death took them too. It was obviously a strategic disaster for Peter to lose his cool on Titan, but doesn't he deserve it at this point? Everyone he's ever loved promptly died, and he finally found the person responsible for one of them. You can't expect him not to beat the crap out of Thanos there.
#5. Peter Parker (Spider-Man)
Powers can fall upon the strangest people sometimes, and unlike the genius billionaires, norse gods and born war heroes of the Marvel world, Peter Parker was just a kid, one who was really unprepared to be a superhero in any way. Sure he's quite intelligent for his young age, but suddenly becoming the strongest human alive and having abilities on par with the superheroes he admired was a pretty stark change for Peter. Ever since his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War, we've gotten to watch Peter learn just what his role is in this greater universe of superheroes, where someone like him is in position to truly enact positive change. It's of course also worth noting that Tom Holland has been fantastic in the role, especially up against Hulk-sized expectations from people who may have been rooting for Dylan O'Brien or Logan Lerman. One of the MCU's most iconic moments came in that first Civil War trailer when Spidey snatched away Captain America's shield landed in frame for his first appearance alongside the Avengers, right back where he belongs. Spider-Man is home, and this whole big journey wouldn't be as special without him.
#4. Thanos
Marvel's Darth Vader, teased from the shadows for years and then finally unveiled in grand fashion. Thanos flipped over everything we thought we knew about superhero movie villains when he not only did not die in Avengers: Infinity War, but he actually won. Not in the Helmut Zemo "lost but still won" way, but Thanos won outright. He went to each infinity stone and fought and killed whoever he had to fight and kill in order to take them, and then he did. There's no other MCU villain with that kind of performance. Tony Stark feared Thanos before he even met him, and he was clearly right to do so. Thanos took advantage of a divided Avengers team and walked right past them to achieve his goal and decimate half the universe. While he didn't have the absolute most fleshed-out backstory or the very most sympathetic motivation, Thanos was the perfect blend of being a legitimate threat and layered character. The role of being the villain in the final, ultimate climax of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a task the size of the universe itself, and Thanos rose to the challenge.
#3. Loki
The first enemy to assemble the Avengers stands behind only Ledger's Joker in the hierarchy of comic movie villains, but as a character he's so much more than just that. Loki's arc from his first appearance nine years ago has been long and winding, and always captivating and heartbreaking. The adopted son of Odin, Prince of Asgard, felt a burden to rule that only he could fulfill, but his (perhaps justified) self-aspiration was met with a blatant preference toward his older brother, and immediately thereafter the revelation he had not been born to royalty at all. After being set adrift in the cosmos, Loki found himself a mind slave to the mad titan Thanos, landing him eventually into an Asgardian prison cell. From there he was shunned by most of his family, with his most cherished relative, his mother, being killed unceremoniously shortly thereafter. When Loki finally achieved redemption, found peace and restored his relationship with his brother, it was not long before the life was squeezed out of his frail windpipe by the galactic terrorist whose clutches he thought he'd escaped. Not only was Loki's character journey well-written and well-executed, you can't talk about Loki without mentioning the masterful performance of Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston brought just the amount of charm that the god of mischief deserves, making it not at all hard to believe that Loki could take over the kingdom of Asgard by merit of his deceptive charisma alone.
#2. Steve Rogers (Captain America)
The leader of the Avengers, the man with the iron heart, the humanity that tied gods and monsters back down to Earth. Steve Rogers is, in his own words, "just a kid from Brooklyn", but what's inside of him made him so much more. Captain America wasn't just a name to reflect the spangly suit that Steve Rogers wore to battle, it was a symbol of the qualities we as Americans like to strive to reflect: perseverance, fortitude, and the unwavering commitment to do what's right regardless of how hard it is. There's a lot of moments you can point to as the definitive moment of Steve's character, but I can't think of a better choice than when Steve, with a broken body, broken shield, and broken home stood alone against the entire legions of Thanos's army. It didn't matter what the odds were. It didn't matter that he could stand down and bargain for his survival. All that mattered was the mission, and there was nothing in the universe that could stop Steve from fighting for what was right. And when the portals opened behind his backs, ushering in the armies of the world to stand against Thanos's tyranny, a powerful statement was made that those who are willing to lay it all down on the line usually don't do so alone.
"The price of freedom is high; it always has been. But it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not."
#1. Tony Stark (Iron Man)
It all began with one man, one man who wasn't born great, and didn't have it thrust upon him; rather he achieved it, he built it from scratch when all hope was lost. Because Tony wasn't strong enough to punch his way out of that cave, nor could he shoot lasers from his fists, shrink to microscopic size, or run past the speed of light. He used the one thing the terrorists couldn't take away from his: his mind. He didn't have the means to escape readily available to him, so he built them. Tony Stark's superpower is his brain, and his ironclad will. Everything in the MCU, from the very most grounded to the most bizarre and cosmic, all stemmed from Tony Stark's story, the journey he began twelve years ago. Iron Man ushered in a new era of not just cinema, but global culture. Tony Stark has been at the center of this great big saga since day one; he is the most compelling and most complex character with the most impactful presence in the 23 films of the MCU so far. The greatest accomplishment of this great big universe, is the man behind the ARC reactor. And when it all came to a head, the culmination of a decade plus of excitement and joy and tears and laughter, the climax it had all been building up to...the journey of one man, the one that eleven years prior saw him clinging to life in that cave, finally saw its conclusion. The MCU is Tony Stark. He is its heart, its soul, and of course, its greatest character.
Thank you all for coming along on this journey with me, I hope you've enjoyed reading these as much as I've enjoyed making them!

2017.07.30 19:51 unclefishbits I was trying to explain to my friends about the guest stars, and cameos, on Bojack Horseman. There wasn't a complete list, so I made a quick one.

Simpsons may have more guests, but for 3 years it is amazing to pull the like of McCartney, et al. And Martindale is a delight.

2017.07.30 19:49 unclefishbits I made a simple, updated, alphabetical list of all the guest stars, cameos, etc.

Feel free to add any, subtract, correct, add names of characters, etc. I was looking for one to explain to my friends how wild this show is, but there wasn't one. So thanks to Sunday morning, I did it. Not sure alphabetical is best, but whatever:

Editor's Note

This episode contains some experiments. I was so focused on research and writing for this episode that I forgot to mention any of the following on the recording. Please let me know via the post comments, Twitter, Reddit, Facebook or VOICEMAIL (another experiment I'll announce in an upcoming episode) at 724-24-CRIME.
  1. The title: I've been trying to put as many victims' names in the title as I can but at some point it just becomes too long. This time I'm focusing the title on the featured cold case. This partially to prevent crazy-long titles and partially to bring extra attention to the featured cold case because most if not all of the other crimes discussed are either under active investigation or have been solved and are awaiting prosecution.
  2. I read the intro this week instead of using the creepy augmented voice I've used previously.
  3. I've added bumpers between main segments of the show. It's a few notes of melancholy, mysterious-sounding strings taken from Ofelia's Dream by Benjamin Tissot.
  4. No background music in this episode.

Update on Chris Zahl, covered in Ep. 4

Someone named Rich Laue posted the following comment on the YouTube video of episode 4:
As a friend of Chris Zahl I can add a little more. He had found an out of the way field in a Monmouth County Park off of Red Hill Road about 2 miles from the farm, to grow his weed.. He contended this was for medical research, but spent time in jail. The PI, hired by Friends of Chris, feels his disappearance is related to the pot growing, considering that all they found was the items you mentioned, almost ones costly felt it was murder. The car had been sanitized, no dirt, hair or fingerprints could be found to identify who he might have been with or where the vehicle might have gone. . His brother is not a suspect, the farm was thoroughly searched, including the pond. The mother who our lives there husband's has since sold the farm and lives in Red Bank. Texas also was brought into the investagation, but I'm not sure why.
Go have a listen to Episode 4 for more info and while you're there you can read the info I included in the original story I did on Chris Zahl.

Podcast Recommendation

This time the podcast recommendation is Crime in Sports by comedians James Pietragallo & Jimmie Whisman. While I was born and raised in a football household (Go Eagles!) and played baseball and basketball for years (very poorly), I'm not that into sports. (Sorry Dad). BUT when you combine sports with true crime you have my attention. Pietragallo and Whisman always bring serious research to the table and manage to be funny without disrespecting the victims. So, even if you're not a fan of sportsball, give Crime in Sports a try. It's a great listen and because of the show's premise it's likely to cover a lot of crimes you've never heard about on the broader true crime podcast circuit.
Find Crime in Sports on AudioBoom, Podbean, iTunes, Facebook and Twitter.

News

  • Dylan Roof was found guilty on December 15 of 33 counts of federal hate crimes for the murder of 9 churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina on June 17, 2015. Roof, acting as his own lawyer now that the sentencing phase of his trial has started, told a judge on December 28, 2016 that he will not call witnesses or present any other evidence which might mitigate against the death penalty. Video of his confession to FBI agents can be found on the True Crime Review YouTube channel. Dylan Roof murdered Cynthia Marie Graham Hurd, Susie Jackson, Ethel Lee Lance, Depayne Middlton-Doctor, Clementa C. Pinckney, Tywanza Sanders, Daniel Simmons, Sharonda Coleman-Singleton and Myra Thompson. Other victims include Felicia Sanders, Polly Sheppard and several others who remain unnamed for various reasons.
  • In an unrelated story, on Monday, December 19, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina conducted its Shop with the Sheriff program, during which the children and families of homicide victims met with deputies to shop for Christmas presents. A total of 25 children were given up to $100 each to pick out a present at a local Walmart.
  • In another totally unrelated story that also took place in South Carolina, on December 27 State House Representative Chris Corley of Aiken County, from Graniteville, was arrested for responding to his wife's accusations that he has been cheating on her by punching her in the face and pointing a gun at her. He then threatened to kill himself. He did these things in the presence of their 2- and 8-year-old children. He was charged with first-degree criminal domestic violence, a felony that could get him 10 years in prison. He was granted $20,000 bond and will work while the charges are pending.
  • Five Albuquerque teens were charged with murder in early December after backing over 47-year-old father of three boys Hector Aguirre with his own work van, killing him. They had stolen the van and scared the man off by pointing a gun at him while he held onto the windshield wipers of the vehicle trying to stop the theft. They could easily have gotten away from him but decided to crush him under his own van anyway. Several of those charged had also been involved in a drive-by murder, the fatal shooting of a dog, and other crimes.
  • Felton Ladell Humphries Jr. was sentenced on December 9th to 69 years to life for stabbing his wife to death while she was holding their 5-month-old daughter, whom Humphries also deliberately stabbed. The child survived but 32-year-old Alicia Renae Williams died the next morning.
  • A judge in Ithaca, New York rejected the December 19th the guilty plea of 38-year-old Justin Barkley in the shooting death of 52-year-old William Schumacher while the seasonal UPS driver was on a break from his overnight route. The judge rejected the guilty plea because Barkley said he thought he had murdered Donald Trump. The next hearing in the indictment is scheduled for January 6th.
  • New Jersey State Police recently arrested 32-year-old Jeremiah Monell after the December 19th murder of his estranged wife and mother of his two children 35-year-old Tara O'Shea-Watson. Tara's stabbing death was allegedly witnessed by the couple's son who then went to find help for his mother. Monell has been charged with homicide and weapons offenses. His bail has been set at $1 million.

Human Garbage of the Week

Anthony Showers of Anfield, Liverpool, Merseyside in the United Kingdom, was sentenced to life in prison, with a 29-year-minimum. On June 12, 2016 he broke into the home of mother and daughter Karen and Jade Hales, 53 and 28 years old respectively, by breaking a rear bedroom window. Showers had dated Jade on and off but was banned from her home by a court order following a domestic abuse incident. He began by killing their dog with a hammer.
Showers then took the hammer to Jade, hitting her in the head 12 times and then, either while she was dying or very soon after she was dead, Showers raped her. Afterward, he found Karen downstairs. The mother was a stroke survivor who used a walker and depended on Jade for day-to-day care. He beat her to death with the same hammer he had used on her daughter.
Jade's 21-year-old sister Amanda told the court:
The day she met Anthony saw Jade change from a fun-loving young woman to a scared, frail person. I watched him take every last piece of her until there was no more to take.
Anthony Showers is the worthless stinking rancid putrid Human Garbage of the Week. My heart breaks for Jade, Karen, Amanda and all of the other people Showers hurt.

Cold Case: Sherri Vanessa Holland

[post at truecrimereview]
We discussed the murder of Sherri Holland by Steven Spears in Episode 9, but as one blogger notesthe disappearance of Sherri Vanessa Holland involved a different woman altogether. So we're going to cover that in this episode.
Please note that while I have rewritten what follows and added and subtracted elements of the story, most of the info comes from the Charley Project and the tireless work of Meaghan Good.

Basics

According to the Charley Project, Sherri Vanessa Holland was born on May 9, 1962 and was 34 years old when she was reported missing on August 16, 1996. She is a white woman with blonde hair, blue eyes, weighed 115 pounds and was 5 feet 5 inches tall when she disappeared. She has a scar on her left arm and pierced ears. Holland had cosmetic facial surgery in 1995. Some agencies may refer to her as Vanessa Sherri Holland.
Sherri was in Flager Beach, Florida where she owned a vacation property, preparing to return home to Atlanta, Georgia when she was last seen between 11:30 AM and 12:00 PM. Her sisters reported her missing when she didn't arrive in Atlanta. Her vehicle, a gold- or champagne-colored 1987 BMW 325i with Georgia plate BKT664, was discovered on August 24 (according to the GBI) or 25, 1996 near exit 76 between Macon and Atlanta Georgia. It was found on I-75 northbound in Morrow, Georgia. It had a flat as a result of a nail in the front right tire.
An Atlanta-Journal Constitution article dated August 20, 2001 says Sherri's car was a 1985 model year BMW so it's not clear which year is correct. It's worth noting the same article states Sherri was last heard from on August 16, 1995 even though GBI records and all other sources state that the year was 1996. Bottom line is it seems like the AJC article wasn't fact-checked very carefully, so keep that in mind.
Two miles from the car, in Riverdale, Georgia near the Stratford Arms apartments, her dogs were found in a field. Sadly one of them had died after being hit by traffic, but one of them was rescued and went to live with twin Sherri's sister Terri. A resident of the Stratford Arms told police the surviving dog, named Gracie, had tried to get him to follow her into a wooded area across the street from the Stratford Arms. However, further investigation revealed no evidence about Sherri.
There must have been other search sites though. According to that dubious AJC article, as many as "seven searches of woods, ponds and a vacant warehouse, some with cadaver dogs, within a three-mile radius of Holland's car turned up nothing."
An anonymous tipster told investigators Sherri was seen near her car loading luggage into a white pickup truck on the day she vanished. Further investigation revealed no additional evidence and police could not corroborate the tip.
Sherri was apparently operating an escort service called Atlanta Super Models out of her house the year she disappeared and her business partner told investigators during interview that they had been in business since 1992 and he believed her murder was related to their work. The business partner spoke of her in the past tense. He claimed she had set up video surveillance around the escort service's property and caught both employees and clients on video, later blackmailing them. The business partner claimed he had many people discuss killing Sherri.
Sherri had started dating a married man in 1989.
The man and his wife separated briefly in 1990 but eventually got back together. Sherri and the boyfriend had planned to marry in December 1996 but the boyfriend got cold feet and stayed with his wife. Apparently, at least according to the boyfriend, his wife never knew about his affair with Sherri.
He told police he and Sherri had argued about their relationship before she left for her vacation home in Florida. Having parted ways without resolving the argument, Sherri paged him around 11:30 AM and when he called her back she told him she would call when she got back to Atlanta. That was the last time he ever spoke to her.
Several people told investigators Sherri was depressed about things with her boyfriend and wanted out of the escort business. She had apparently mentioned Europe as an escape destination. Someone later gave authorities a recording phone call from September 1996 in which one of Sherri's sisters says to an unidentified second person that it's possible Sherri staged her own disappearance and escaped to Europe or elsewhere to start over.
A user going by the name anewday and claiming to have been an employee of Sherri's posted on the missing persons forum Porchlight and suspects Sherri's business partner, whom Anewday calls Jim:
I remember Sherri very well. She was beautiful, sweet and had a very sophisticated aire. I love this picture of her and Gracie (when she was a puppy). I worked for her for four years, but mostly knew her through her "business partner." The whole time I worked there, she had very little to do with the business and was out of town a lot of the time.
I told the GBI everything that I knew about her and her disappearance, including the fact that Jim had acted extremely nervous and sketchy during the days following her disappearance. I don't believe for one second that she was using video to blackmail her employees or their clients. If anyone did that, it was Jim. He had a whole suspicious backstory of who he was and where he came from. I'm fairly sure his name wasn't Jim, either.
When he told me about her disappearance, he said she probably just wanted to leave town to get away from her life, and also, to make her boyfriend worry about her. It was well known that she was devastated about their relationship problems.
I never trusted anything about Jim. He would say terrible things about her, but at the same time, pretty much lived on her dime and the business she had started. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he finally decided to "take" the business all for himself. It was very profitable, and being that it was all under the table, he probably figured no one would take much notice.
I look online year after year to see if anything has come of the case. She was (hopefully IS) such a vibrant person. She positively radiated with life. I hope she IS living in Europe and is finally happy. God bless you Sherri.
Anewday created their forum account on the same day that they posted this message and never posted anything else at Porchlight, so this info should probably be taken with a whole shaker of salt.

Motives

Now we'll discuss all of the motives I found in my research or came up with myself to make Sherri disappear. This section should probably be called "suspects" but I'm not in a position to suggest anyone is guilty of anything so I'm reluctant to call it that.
  • Motive 1: Sherri's business partner "Jim" had a couple of possible motives. First, if the rumors are true that Sherri was blackmailing clients and employees she could have been damaging the business, driving Jim to get rid of her to save the business. Second, if Porchlight forum member Anewday is to be believed, Jim may have simply grown tired of Sherri's absentee management and decided to take the business for himself. But while Anewday claims Jim was acting "extremely nervous and sketchy" after Sherri disappeared, he could have been expecting the investigation would lead authorities to his illegal escort service. That alone would be enough to be nervous about even if Jim had nothing to do with Sherri's disappearance.
  • Motive 2: Sherri's married boyfriend also may have had a motive. If Sherri threatened to tell his wife about their affair if he didn't marry Sherri like they had planned, the boyfriend may have felt his recently reconciled marriage was in danger and took the extreme step of making Sherri disappear. We don't even know his name though, so it's hard to speculate on anything like his past, his personality or whether he had the opportunity to do anything to Sherri or to hire an uninvolved third party to do it.
  • Motive 3: If Sherri's boyfriend's wife had found out about the affair despite his claim that she didn't know, her anger and jealousy may have motivated her to bring harm to Sherri herself, to demand her husband do it, or to hire an uninvolved third party to do it. I'm going to give the GBI the benefit of the doubt, even though I couldn't confirm this anywhere, that they talked to Sherri's boyfriend's wife. She would have told them whether or not she knew about the affair and, if she hadn't, I bet her initial reaction would have demonstrated as much to investigators.
These next two motives are weak but I'm including them for the sake of being thorough:
  • Motive 4: Sherri may have decided to escape her failed relationship and increasingly unwanted job by going to Europe, never to be heard from again. This is very unlikely to me though because she had no reason to abandon her car on the highway and even less reason to abandon her dogs. She could have left the dogs with one or more of her sisters and simply gotten a taxicab to the airport.
    • Related to this theory is the lead mentioned in the 2001 Atlanta Journal-Constitution articleI mentioned earlier: "Then there was the man who told investigators he had gone to college in Cobb County with Holland and recognized her on an Atlanta-bound airline flight from Texas last November. "He went up and spoke to her, and the woman looked up at him and went back to reading a book. She refused to speak," [GBI agent Fred] Mays said." This is more total conjecture, but I would imagine most people would politely say "no" or angrily say "leave me alone" depending on their personality type. But annoyance may explain her refusal to speak at all. This sounds like something that may have happened to the woman more than once. It's very unlikely, in my opinion, that this was Sherri. After all, why make yourself vanish only to go no further than Texas? And why risk returning to Atlanta if you wanted so badly to get away from everyone and everything you knew? She certainly wasn't returning to reunite with friends or family because this sighting occurred in November 2000 and she hasn't been seen since 1996.
  • Motive 5: Serial killer Gary Michael Hilton may have counted Sherri among his victims. Websleuths member FigTree theorizes that several similarities between Sherri and Hilton's victims suggest a connection. For example, Hilton told police during his confession of the January 2008 murder of Meredith Emerson that he could not bring himself to kill Emerson's dog and let it go a few miles from the crime scene. Also, Hilton lived 22 minutes from Sherri's Georgia residence and had killed at least one person, Cheryl Dunlap, in Florida. Dunlap's car had been found by the side of the road with a flat tire, something Hilton did with a knife. Hilton confessed several murders to authorities so why not Sherri's? I respect FigTree's interest in the case and that sometimes we have gut feelings we just can't shake, but I just don't have the same feeling here. I watched, listened to or read transcripts of more than six hours of investigative interviews with Hilton in an effort to give this theory my full attention. If you want to dive deeper into the Hilton theory put forward y FigTree you can find all of the documents and videos about Hilton at hiltonevidencedocuments.blogspot.com.

My Theory

I wish I had a good theory on this one but first I'll tell you what I think did not happen. I don't think Sherri ran away to Europe or was murdered by Gary Michael Hilton. I also don't see her boyfriend or his wife getting involved in a disappearance or murder without drawing significant attention from investigators and I couldn't find anything that named them as suspects or made more than a brief mention about them. It's hard for me to believe a couple who could barely keep their marriage in tact managed to commit the perfect murder and haven't been suspected of it during the twenty year since.
Now, as for the two possibilities that look most likely to me:
  • My first theory: I do agree with FigTree on Websleuths that Fuquah Dewalt Cashaw, arrested at his home in Texas in February 2015 for the 1999 murder of 22-year-old Heather Danielle Davidson in Georgia, is worth a look with regard to Sherri's disappearance. The last we heard of Cashaw he was out on bond after pleading not guilty to Davidson's strangling death.
    • According to Click2Houston.com, "Cook County, Illinois, court records show in 1990 he was found guilty of murder and second-degree murder. In 2003 he was found guilty of unlawful use of weapon, and in 2004 he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and concealment of a homicidal death." He's got both prior convictions and present charges that indicate he's capable of murder, and Davidson's body was found on a small and desolate stretch of Georgia road by a passerby, by accident. A tendency to take victims somewhere out of the way may explain why no sign of Sherri has been found at any of the leads uncovered by investigators: because they were all derived from some connection to Sherri, like where her car was found and where her dogs were found. A FOX 5 article quoteLieutenant Darrell Powers of the Butts County Sheriff's Office as saying "Through the evidence that we recovered and the witnesses that we've interviewed, we believe that there are possible other victims out there." That prompts me to keep this theory on the table.
  • My second theory: Sherri got a flat tire heading home from Florida to Georgia and an unknown assailant kidnapped or murdered her in a crime of opportunity. This one admittedly isn't as compelling as the Cashaw theory but unfortunately, at least in my opinion, it's at least as plausible.
If you have information about Sherri Vanessa Holland, contact Morrow Police at 770-960-3003 or the GBI Tip Line at 1-800-597-8477.

A dream of mine would be to do a project where I work side by side with Raf Simmons, Helmut Lang, Vanessa Beecroft and Martin Margiela all with one purpose of creating beautiful product that can be attainable by everyone… Imagine if the people I named went to high school 2gthr and had a project to do for school… Just creating in a fun simple way with no politics… Man, I was thinking about when I commented on the idea of "taking the rap throne” … that statement has’t been sitting well with me… That’s a dated mentality ... I’m not on that … every rapper is somebody’s favorite… Some rappers got the club … Some got the radio… some got the conscience…some got the streets… Everybody has something they do the best… A wise man should be humble enough to admit when he’s wrong and change his mind based on new information… There is so much positive energy right now … Let’s stay on this Ultra Light Beam… In rap we have been developing a brotherhood… My number one enemy has been my ego… there is only one thrown and that’s God's …

A follow-up from my post yesterday.
This time seasons 4 and 5 are the entrees, henny. I'll take a side of fish!
Some words are missing because I used the #RuVealed episodes to make this and RuPaul spoke over a few of the entrances. Let me know if you see any mistakes!
In order of appearance:
Season Four
WillamLaughs.
Confessional: My name is Willam, I’m 29. I didn’t come up through the club system. I’m an actor. I’ve done TV, I’ve done film. Sex and the City, District, Criminal Minds, and a show with like a multi-story arc. I’m a successful drag queen, and not some bitch who has to show for a dollar.
Lashauwn BeyondLooks at Willam and waves fan. Hi queen 1!
Confessional: My name’s Lashauwn Beyond, I’m 21 years old. Lashauwn Beyond is the main attraction for the circus. She just has a lot of fun.
Jiggly CalienteSucks lollipop. What’s good, ladies?
Confessional: My name is Jiggly Caliente, I’m 30 years old from Queens, New York, baby. Jiggly Caliente is New York City’s plus-sized Barbie. She’s got swag for your nerve. You can’t take huh.
Phi Phi O’Hara – Well hello, hello. How are you all doing? Good wow.
Confessional: My name is Phi Phi O’Hara, I am 25 years old.
Madame LaQueerPoses and smiles.
Confessional: I am Madame LaQueer, I am 29 years old.
Milan – Heyy, there’s a new girl in town! Let's get to business!
Confessional: My name is Milan. I’m 36 years old, and I’m from New York City. Milan is FIERCE! She is fabulous, she’s a diva. She can act, sing, dance, produce, and you don’t want it from her! Laughs.
Alisa Summers – Hello, how are you all honeys doing?
Confessional: My name is Alisa Summers. I’m 23 years old, and I’m from Tampa, Florida. I am definitely a fishy queen. I can walk down a street, and I don’t really get clocked. People are looking moreso at how big my titties and ass are.
Dida Ritz – Bonjour, ladies!
Confessional: I’m Dida Ritz, I’m 25 years old, and I’m from Chicago. Dida Ritz is… if you think about Beyoncé, and Carrie Bradshaw, and Kimora Simmons, and they all three got together and somehow had a baby.
The PrincessPoses.
Confessional: I’m The Princess, I’m 32 years old. I am a reserved extrovert. And I think putting on the make-up and the wig and the costume unleashes her.
Kenya Michaels – Hi girrrls!
Confessional: My name is Kenya Michaels. I have 21. I am from the island of enchantment: Puerto Rico! I’m a little person, but I’m a fierrrrce snaps bitch!
Chad Michaels – Morning bitches! Hi everybody, how y’all doin’?
Confessional: My name is Chad Michaels, I am 40 years old. Chad Michaels is first and foremost a celebrity impersonator. That’s my passion. Cher has been what I’m most well-known for. I really do my best to impersonate her with reality like you’ll never see. Hair flip/tongue pop. I will never do that, because she doesn’t do that.
Sharon NeedlesSlithers in werkroom. Quivers lip menacingly. Tilts hat. Moment passes, warms up. I look spooky, but I’m really nice!
Confessional: My name is Sharon Needles. I’m 29 years old, and I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The three words that would describe Sharon Needles are beautiful, spooky, and stupid.
Latrice Royale – Yaaaaaaaooww!! EAT IT!
Confessional: My name is Latrice Royale, I’m 39 years of age. Latrice Royale is large and in charge; chunky yet funky; bold and beautiful, baby.

Season Five
DetoxChews gum. Holy shit, we’re here. Let’s send the rest of these clowns home. Where is everybody?
Confessional: My name is Detox, and I am 27 years old. I can do everything – I act, I sing, I rap, I dance. I’ve worked with huge celebrities, like Rihanna, Ke$ha. And I’m the queen bee, so eat it up. And crown it. You’re all fuckin’ welcome.
Roxxxy AndrewsGives multiple looks here, there, and everywhere.
Confessional: My name is Roxxxy Andrews, and I’m 28 years old. I am a pageant girl: big hair, big make up. From head to toe, it’s a Roxxxy Andrews project.
Jade Jolie – Hey girls, hey! What’s goin’ on, pussycats? Giggles.
Confessional: I am Jade Jolie. I am 25 years old. Honey I’m servin’ up fish, tuna on a platter. Jade is bubbly, she laughs a lot. I just like to be fabulous and fun. Laughs.
Serena ChaCha – This is the best quinceañera present ever!
Confessional: My name is Serena Chacha, and I’m 21 years old. I come from an arts school environment, and I’m interested in fine art drag.
Alyssa EdwardsGives arms. Grins. Gives hair.
Confessional: My name is Alyssa Edwards, and I am 32 years of age. I’m known as the Vanessa Williams of drag, because after winning the title of Miss Gay America, the crown was taken away from me. I am here to show people I still got it.
Jinkx MonsoonTo the other girls: You know I can hear the cackling from down the street!
Confessional: My name is Jinkx Monsoon. I’m 24, and I’m Seattle’s youngest MILF. I’m theatrically trained in the Broadway School of Singing.
Penny Tration – Hello, boys!
Confessional: My name is Penny Tration, and I am 39 years old. I’m here because I was chosen by thousands of people in the online voting contest. I hope that me being voted on the show by a lot of people makes the other queens really intimidated.
Vivienne Pinay – Hey y’all!
Confessional: My name is Vivienne Pinay, I’m 26 years old. Vivienne is all about glamour. My beauty is everything.
Alaska Thunderfuck 5000Neighs. Takes mask off, waves hand. Hieeeeee!!!!
Confessional: My name is Alaska, and I’m 27 years old. And I also have a very famous boyfriend, whose name is Sharon Needles. In this competition, dating the previous winner is definitely uncharted territory.
Honey Mahogany – Hey sisters! Grins. How are you?
Confessional: My name is Honey Mahogany, and I am 28 years old. People get down on San Francisco for being a bunch of hippies, but there is so much beauty there. Have you seen Honey Mahogany? Laughs.
Ivy Winters – Hey hey hey, ladies! Ahhh! Oh my god! Spins and shakes.
Confessional: My name is Ivy Winters. I am 25 years old. I make dresses out of cassette tape, paper cups, condoms; I will figure out a way to turn it into a costume.
Monica Beverly HillzPoses. Hello, girls.
Confessional: I’m Monica Beverly Hillz, with a Z. I’m 27. Monica Beverly Hillz is very good at giving face gives face. I have been called ghetto, banjee, trashy. I was raised in the ghetto, you know I’m street smart. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
Lineysha SparxSmirks. Poses.
Confessional: I am Lineysha Sparx and I am 24 years old. Lineysha is so fierce, so flawless, so sparkling. Lineysha’s in the house! So watch out, bitches.
Coco Montrese – Oh, boyyys! The diva has arrived!
Confessional: I’m Coco Montrese, and I’m 37 years old. (That’s all she got before being asked about the Alyssa beef, but her dramatics are entertainting so I’ll include it here.) Alyssa Edwards hair flip. What the fuck. We were close, and I feel like I was bamboozled. I don’t think she wants to talk about it, but we’re gonna talk about it. If she doesn’t go home first.
